New Government Takes Office on New Years Day
January 10, 2008... It was a tumultuous and turbulent year in the Town of Cheektowaga, with many changes at the
elected level, and big decisions for the Democratic Committee and the public to make for their roster of public
officials.
But the dust has now settled and the Democratic Party has placed an outstanding new team in place to lead the
Town into the New Year.
A packed house of over 280 friends and supporters came out to the Cheektowaga Senior Citizens Center on New
Years Day to see the new Town Board sworn into office. Leading the Town will be Mary Holtz, Cheektowaga's first
female Supervisor. Taking the oath of office for Council were Jeff Swiatek, Rick Zydel and Charles Markel. At a
special meeting of the board held on New Years Day, Stanley Kaznowski was named to fill the opening on the
Town Board created by the departure of Alice Magierski, and he too was sworn into office.
Finishing the line up are the new Town Clerk, Alice Magierski, new Highway Superintendent Mark Wegner, and
returning Town Justice Tom Kolbert.
